I can read endless blog posts and listen to podcasts about business, but there’s is nothing better than a picking up a good book. Today I wanted to share a few of the creative business books that top my list.
In the last few months, I haven’t spend much time reading, but after listening to an episode of the #createlounge podcast, I’ve decided that needs to change. I’m going to start planning time into my day to read, even if it is just 20 minutes. My reading list is getting rather long, so I’m looking forward to starting this practice. How do you fit time into your day to read?
MUST READ creative Business Books
Big Magic, Elizabeth Gilbert | I’m about halfway through this book and I can’t get enough. I feel like Elizabeth Gilbert is cheering me on as I make discoveries about my creative process and finding fulfillment in the everyday. It’s a must read for all creatives!
The War of Art, Steven Pressfield | As a creative, I often hit barriers in my work. This book is designed to help move past barriers to achieve success.
Darling Greatly, Brene Brown | This book is next on my list. The beloved Brene Brown examines the topic of vulnerability, which is often though of as weakness. Instead, she believes it takes courage to share your vulnerability.
How To Style Your Brand, Fiona Humberstone | This book walks you through the process of creating and styling your brand. It is perfect for anyone planning a new blog, business or rebrand.
Rework, Jason Fried & David Heinemeier Hansson | Kathleen Shannon from the Being Boss podcast highly recommended this book and I knew I had to read it. Rework takes an untraditional approach to business and focuses on how to be more productive and get to work.
Work Your Wealth, Mary Beth Storjohann | All lady bosses must be on top of their finances. Mary Beth walks us through the process of taking total control of our money in an approachable way.
Playing Big, Tara Mohr | After hearing Tara on a Being Boss episode, I added this book to my list. Tara shares how we can achieve our big dreams by “playing big” from the inside out.

We’re like book besties, Katie! 😉
I’ve read most of these books and love them and the inspiration they give me. The War of Art has been on my list for a while now, so this is the perfect kick in the button to start digging into that book!
Yay! Get reading lady! Any other must reads? xo
This is so helpful! I’m constantly looking for non-boring books about improving the art of being a small biz owner/entrepreneur. I also found The E-Myth Revisted by Michael Gerber to be super helpful in getting everything organized and running flawless.
“Big Magic” sounds amazing!! I just went to Amazon to order it and it says it’s not available until September…am I missing something?
It’s not out in paperback yet. You can get it in hardcover or for your Kindle. Check it out!
Big Magic sounds like a book for me 🙂
It’s so good (and I’m only halfway through!) Let me know what you think of it! xo
Great list. Have to second E-Myth Revisited. It’s a must-read for entrepreneurs.
That is on my list too! I need to move it higher now. Thanks for sharing!
