I’ve waxed poetic about the greatness of WordPress before, so you might know I’m a huge fan of the plugin feature. If you aren’t familiar with plugins, they are pieces of software that can be added to your WordPress site to add functionality or new features. (Not sure how to install a plugin? This video tutorial walks you through the process.)

Because anyone can make a WordPress plugin, there are a lot of amazing ones and others that are completely garbage. Today, I’ve rounded up my favorite plugins to help you take social media to the next level on your website or blog.

Must-Have WordPress Social Media Plugins

Better Click to Tweet Have a great quote or message you would love readers to share? Use this plugin to make it easy for site visitors to share your content via Twitter. You enter the text and the plugin adds a CTA box that includes the quote. When someone shares, it automatically adds your Twitter handle.

Instagram Feed by Smash Balloons – I’ve tried a lot of different Insta plugins, but this one is my favorite! You can display 1 image on your sidebar or your 8 most recent shots at the bottom of your site. I use the free version and it is easy to use and comes with a lot of customization options.

jQuery Pin It Button – Want your content pinned more on Pinterest? This plugin makes it super easy for your site visitors to pin all of your content. Even better, you can add a custom “pin it” button too.

Revive Old Posts – This plugin might be my all time favorite! I don’t spend much time on Twitter right now, but I still have followers there, so I use this plugin to share old content on the platform. You decide how many times a day you would like your content shared (I currently have it set to 3x a day) and how the tweets should read. If you have seasonal content, you can filter the posts out until you are ready to share them.

Simple Social Icons – Looking for the perfect social media icons for your sidebar or header? This plugin allows you to add customizable icons to anywhere widgets are allowed.

SumoMe – This plugin has a ton of features ranging from email opt-in forms to heat mapping to social media share buttons. I use the “Share” feature on my site. I love how discreet the share bar is on the left side of the page.

WordPress to Buffer – If you use Buffer, you don’t want to miss this plugin. Schedule your new content to Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and more via Buffer. With this plugin built into your website, you will never forget to share your latest blog post.

Now that you have this list of amazing WordPress plugins, take some time to review the plugins on your website. Be honest with yourself and decide which ones you aren’t using or have deactivated. Now go back and delete all of the plugins you never use. Doing this will speed up your website! Hooray!
